Unitive Appoints Friery to Sales Director's Post

Research Triangle Park, N.C.-Donna Friery has joined Unitive Inc, a provider of wafer-level packaging services. She reports to Bob Lanzone, vice president of sales and marketing.

Earlier, she held various sales positions at Fairchild Semicon-ductor, NEC, Toshiba America Electronic Components and Zaiq Technologies. She earned a bachelor's degree in science from Suffolk University, Boston, and an MSEE from Georgia Tech. [unitive.com]

Crain New Marketing VP at Radiant Technology Corp.

Fullerton, Calif.-Dr. David Crain has joined Radiant Technology Corp. (RTC), a supplier of high-temperature process equipment.

Crain was most recently corporate director of markets and strategies at the Fluor Corp. He holds a Ph.D. in materials science from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. [radianttech.com]

Inamori Foundation Names Three Laureates in Electronics

Kyoto, Japan.-The Inamori Foundation has named three laureates in the category of advanced technology, Dr. Zores I. Alferov, Russia; Dr. Izuo Hayashi, Japan; and Dr. Morton B. Panish, U.S.

The Foundation said, "Collectively, these individuals have made pioneering contributions to the development of opto-electronics...by achieving the continuous wave operation of semiconductor lasers at room temperature. The laureates will share a cash prize of about $400,000. [inamori-f.or.jp]

Erik Orwoll

Orwoll Assumes Engineering Duties at M&M Specialties

Tempe, Ariz.-Erik Orwoll has been appointed director of engineering at M&M Specialties' Test Socket and Mechanical Interface Division. He was most recently engineering manager at Wells-CTI, Phoenix.

Orwoll, who is pursuing a master's degree in project management and an MBA at the Keller Graduate School of Management, earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Arizona. [mmspec.com]

Dr. Craig Barrett

Intel Corp.'s Craig Barrett Elected SIA Board Chairman

San Jose-Dr. Craig Barrett, president and CEO of Intel Corp., Santa Clara, has been elected Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) board chairman for 2002. He succeeds Dr. John Kelly of the IBM Technology Group.

Gregory Williams, president and CEO of Intersil Communications, was elected vice chairman for 2002.

Ray Stata, chairman and co-founder of Analog Devices, has been presented with the SIA's Robert N. Noyce Award for "outstanding achievements and leadership."

The SIA created the award in 1990 to honor the memory of Dr. Noyce, co-founder of Intel, who died that year. [sia.org]

IPC Honors 16 Members During Annual Florida Meeting

Northbrook, Ill.-IPC-Association Connect-ing Electronics Industries recently honored 16 members at the trade organization's annual meeting in Orlando, Fla., for their contributions to IPC and the electronics industry.

Two members, Steve DeCollibus of Cookson Electronics and Allan Fraser of GenRad Inc., were presented with the President's Award, given to committee members who make an exceptional contribution to an IPC program. [ipc.org]

IMAPS Dedicates Headquarters

Washington, D.C.-IMAPS recently dedicated its new Washington world headquarters at 611-2d St. NE, Washington, DC 20001. The trade group was formerly in Reston, Virginia. [imaps.org]

University Chair Named for AMD's W.J. 'Jerry' Sanders

Sunnyvale, Calif.-AMD will contribute $2.5 million over the next five years for the creation of the Walter J. (Jerry) Sanders III Endowed Chair in Electrical and Com-puter Engineering at the University of Illinois.

UI is the alma mater of Sanders, AMD's co-founder, CEO and chairman. Sanders earned a BSEE from the University in 1958. In 1969, Sanders and seven others launched AMD. [amd.com]
