Merger of AMT, Hana Creates $300 Million Company

Batam Island, Indonesia-The ink is finally dry on the paper merging Hana Technologies Ltd., Hong Kong, with Advanced Microtronics Technology, Mauritius.

Although the AMT-Hana deal was signed last October and finalized late last year, the company kept a relatively low profile, declining to discuss the merger until recently. In Jasia, nuary, Marc Papageorge, vice president of business development, swept through Silicon Valley to press for new business.

Batam Island, Indone is situated about 12 miles from Singapore.

The result is a new corporation named Advanced Interconnect Technologies, with an estimated $300 million in annual sales and plants on Batam and in Hong Kong.

Ralph Duceour, who founded AMT in 1991, continues as president and CEO of the new concern. Duceour earlier co-founded Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE), Taiwan. His newly enlarged company will now vie for third place in the IC assembly house ranks with ChipPAC.

Amkor Technology Inc., the industry giant, is still several times larger than the number two contender, ASE. The merger uniting the companies was official on December 31. Hana merged into AMT in exchange for 43% of the new corporation.

AIT's anodization lines run over one million units a month through AIT's patented anodization process.

Advanced Technologies Interconnect, briefly owned by Hana, was included in the acquisition. AIT, Manteca, Calif., is the former Olin Interconnect Tech-nologies, a maker of specialized packages such as the MQUAD.

In a recent letter to customers from Duceour, he wrote,"We are currently in the final stages of integrating our sales, customer support and other departments. We plan to invest heavily as a company to further expand and improve our level of service to you."

The Newbridge Asia Group, a private equity firm backed by Texas pacific Group and Blum Capital Partners, are principal AMT investors. Newbridge maintains offices in Hong Kong, San Francisco, Shanghai and Singapore. [amtus.com]
