IPC Applauds Dr. Suetsugu

Franklin Park, Ill.-The IPC has recognized Dr. Ken Suetsugu of Panasonic Factory Automation for his achievements in the development of lead-free technologies with the organization's"Special Recognition Award."

Dr. Suetsugu is considered a pioneer in the PC board industry for his lead-free research.[ipc.org]

ESI's Founder Retires

Portland, Ore.-Douglas C. Strain, founder of Electro Scientific Industries and vice chairman of the board of ESI has retired.[esi.com]

Quad Systems Promotes Three and Names Ross Fraser New European Manager

Willow Grove, Pa.-Quad Systems Corp., an assembly systems supplier, has promoted Elmer O'Brien, Matt Stack-house and Edward Conson. The company also appointed Ross Fraser general manager and director of Quad Europe Ltd., High Wycombe, UK.

O'Brien was promoted to vice president, technical services and support from director of field service.

In his new post, he will be responsible for Quad's North American and International field service team.

Stackhouse was promoted from director, technical services, and Conson was formerly a field service engineer.

Fraser returns to Quad Systems from Macrotron, headquartered in Munich, Germany, where he was in charge of marketing and sales for Macrotron's automated optical and x-ray inspection operations in the UK.[quad-sys.com]

IDI Promotes Anne Bush

Kansas City, Kansas-Interconnect Devices Inc. has promoted Anne Bush to central regional sales manager.

For the past 10 years, Bush has worked as an inside account manager at IDI. She earned a degree in business from Central Missouri State University.[idinet.com]

Wright Promoted to Entegris Senior VP

Chaska, Minn.-Entegris, a materials management company, has promoted Michael Wright to the new post of senior vice president of corporate marketing reporting to Jim Dauwalter, executive vice president.

Wright most recently served as vice president of marketing for EMPAK Inc., which merged with Fluoroware into Entegris. Prior to joining Entegris, Wright founded Wright Williams & Kelly, an independent consulting firm in the semiconductor equipment and materials industry.[entegris.co]

Dr. Hector Ruiz Named AMD's President

Sunnyvale, Calif.-Dr. Hector de J. Ruiz, 54, has been named president and chief operating officer of Advanced Micro Devices.

He reports to W.J. "Jerry" Sanders III, who has been serving in those posts since July 1999. Sanders continues as chairman and CEO.

Dr. Ruiz most recently served as president of Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS). At SPS, he was charged with leading Motorola's worldwide semiconductor operations, a $7.3 billion a year business with 33,000 employees.

"Hector Ruiz is one of the real stars of the semiconductor industry," Sanders said. "He has a track record of successful execution at one of the world's premier technology companies."

Dr. Ruiz brings more than 25 years of experience in the semiconductor industry to AMD. He is a graduate of the University of Texas, Austin, where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering. He later earned his Ph.D. from Rice University in electrical engineering.

 

He joined Motorola in 1977 and held a number of posts of increasing responsibility during his 22-year tenure there.[amd.com]
