Teradyne Inspection Unit Features 5-Camera System

Teradyne Inc. recently introduced a new version of its automated optical inspection system. Designated the Model 5539, the system features a five-camera PentaVision design with four angled cameras and one vertical camera.

The new camera combination improves on an earlier 4camera design by offering higher throughput, better defect coverage and simpler programming, according to Teradyne. The full power of the angled cameras can be deployed in areas where maximum defect coverage is needed, for example, where J-lead or QFP- style devices are used.

The system also incorporates four Framegrabber boards which provide a 30 percent higher inspection throughput than previous Teradyne AOI units. The Framegrabber digitizes the analog signal from the video system and stores the result in memory for analysis.

Earlier Teradyne AOI systems can be upgraded with the new Framegrabber boards which are used in the Model 5539. Pricing for the new system begins at $197,000.
