Test Spotlight: STATS Adds High-End RF Test Equipment for Frequencies Up to 6 GHz

Singapore-ST Assembly Test Services (STATS) has added test equipment to expand its capabilities in RF test. With the acquisition of the new test gear, STATS can support frequencies up to 6 GHz.

RF test specifically addresses test requirements for ICs in the wireless market.

Bluetooth Technology

The Asian-based assembly and test provider says it can now handle wireless communications devices employed in cellular phones, wireless local networks (WLANs), global positioning satellites and Bluetooth technology devices.

An important feature which STATS now supports, according to the company, is "frequency hopping." FH, the pseudo-random movement of data between channels, is an essential requirement for testing Bluetooth devices.

"Wireless technology is significantly enhancing the way we communicate access information," said C.K. Tan, vice president of test at STATS. Tan added that wireless is "the driving force behind the accelerating advancements being made in RF designs."

Wireless a Growing Market

Cahners In-Stat Group, a high-tech research firm, estimates that the wireless data market will grow to 25 million subscribers in 2003 from 1.7 million users today.

STATS is an "adopted member" of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group and "plans to work with customers worldwide to jointly develop test programs," Tan said. [statsus.com]
