Dr. Augusto Gutierrez-Aitken

TRW Chip Researcher Wins Hispanic Engineer Achievement Award

Redondo Beach, Calif.-Dr. Augusto Gutierrez-Aitken, a TRW Space & Electronics engineer and scientist who develops advanced semiconductors, has been selected to receive a 2001 Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Award for his work.

The award will be given to Dr. Gutierrez-Aitken, a TRW Technical Fellow, at the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Conference (HENAAC), scheduled for October 11-13 in El Paso, Texas. The Bolivian-born scientist manages a TRW group that develops and supports production of the company's GaAs and InP ICs. [trw.com]

IPC Names Dr. Robert Vitas VP of Professional Development

Northbrook, Ill.-Dr. Robert Vitas has been named vice president of professional development, responsible for education and video/computer training departments for the IPC-Association Connecting Electronics Industries.

Vitas was most recently regional training manager for Qualex Inc., a subsidiary of Eastman Kodak. He holds a doctorate in political science from Loyola University. [ipc.org]

AMCC Names Tim Heenan Vice President of Operations

San Diego-Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (AMCC) has promoted Tim Heenan to vice president of operations from vice president of operations for AMCC's switching and network processing group.

Heenan will be based in the San Diego office, but will manage Sunnyvale operations, and will report to Doug Spreng, president/CEO. [amcc.com]

Ken Donahue

Unitive Inc. Co-founder Wayne Machon Retires; Replaced as CEO by Ken Donahue

Research Triangle Park, N.C.-Ken Donahue has been promoted from Unitive's CFO to CEO, replacing company co-founder Wayne Machon, who is retiring.

Machon will continue as an advisor to Unitive's board of directors and will assist the executive team with special projects.

David Klenk

Prior to joining Unitive, Donahue was the corporate vice president for finance and administration for Zevatech Inc. (now Juki Automation).

Earlier, Donahue spent six years with Ernst & Young as a manager, senior accountant and staff accountant. [unitive.com]

August Technology Creates Separate CEO/President Posts

Bloomington, Minn.-August Technology Corp. has created separate chief executive officer and president posts.

Co-founder Jeff O'Dell, who has served as CEO, president and chairman since the company began in 1992, continues as chairman and CEO. David Klenk, who joined the company in 1993, continues as chief operating officer, while taking on the president's post. [augusttech.com]
