Di Stefano Starts CSP Technology Incubator

Dr. Thomas Di Stefano
Mountain View, Calif.-Dr. Thomas H. Di Stefano, a pioneer in chip-scale packaging, has formed Decision Track, a technology incubator aimed at unlocking opportunities in the rapidly emerging field of wafer-level chip-scale electronics. Dr. Di Stefano was a founder of Tessera, San Jose, and served as that company's chief technical officer and vice president of marketing until September 1998.

Decision Track will assist suppliers to the CSP and interconnect infrastructure develop new business in device design, manufacturing, logistics and materials in support of wafer-level processing.

"The most important factor in the further growth of the CSP infrastructure is no longer individual equipment," said Dr. Di Stefano. "Now the gating items are information and hard data about the demands, equipment, processes, patents and markets for chip-scale electronics."

Before the end of the year, Decision Track will add several key executive positions to its staff, expand its current facilities and open associate offices throughout the world.

Dr. Di Stefano, who holds a doctorate in physics from Stanford University, is also the founder of Chip Scale Review, the Chip Scale International Conference and is currently on this magazine's editorial advisory board.

Industry Vet Walker Joins Dataquest as Senior Analyst

San Jose-Robert J. "Jim" Walker, a semiconductor industry veteran, has joined Dataquest/Gartner Group in the newly created post of senior analyst-semiconductor packaging and assembly. He reports to Clark Fuhs, Dataquest vice president. Walker was most recently marketing director at the Integrated Packaging Assembly Corp., San Jose.

Earlier he was vice president of sales at Hana Technologies (formerly Hana USA). His experience also includes posts at National Semiconductor, E.I. duPont and the Dexter Corp.

Walker is also known for co founding and serving as president-emeritius of the Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA).

Joe Fjelstad Moves to Pacific Consultants LLC

Joseph C. Fjelstad
Mountain View, Calif.-Joseph C. Fjelstad, formerly Tessera's senior engineer for six years, and the company's first fellow, has joined Pacific Consultants LLC as an associate consultant. Fjelstad is widely known for his many publications, including the book Flexible Circuit Technology, and has been a frequent speaker at industry events.

He was also editorial director of Chip Scale Review, when the publication was Tessera-owned and serves on the advisory boards of several publications.

Barrieau Joins Abpac as Sales VP for Western Region

Phoenix-Ernie Barrieau has joined Abpac Inc. as vice president of sales for the Western region, reporting to Bruce Bowers, vice president of worldwide sales. Barrieau was most recently executive vice president for sales and marketing at IPAC, San Jose. He will be located at Abpac's new West Coast office at 50 Airport Parkway in San Jose. Signetics Expands Key Sales Force; Adds Oliver Davis and Greg Johnson

San Jose-Two ASAT alumni, Oliver C. Davis II and Greg Johnson, have signed-on with Signetics USA. Davis, who was an ASAT senior sales account manager, has been named Signetics' director of sales and engineering. Johnson, who was ASAT's vice president of worldwide customer service, has been named vice president of sales, with additional responsibilities for customer service. Davis reports to Johnson, who reports to Wayne Moore, Signetics' president.

Earlier Davis was production/technical manager for Chips & Technologies, San Jose, where he managed test operations. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix and a degree in electronics technology from the DeVry Institute.

Prior to spending five years at ASAT, Johnson, who reports to Wayne Moore, Signetics' President, worked for Rohm in Sunnyvale, Calif., as sales and marketing manager. Earlier he was director of customer service and administration for Amkor Electronics Inc., Santa Clara, Calif. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from TriState University, Angola, Ind.

Charles Less Named Indium's VP-Marketing

Clinton, N.Y.-Charles M. "Chuck" Less has been named vice president of marketing for the Indium Corp. of America. He will be based at the company's world headquarters here, reporting to Gregory P. Evans, Indium president. Less most recently held a similar title at Ferro Corp., a large producer of specialty materials and chemicals. Earlier, he was involved in marketing for Rohm and Haas and was also resident as Rohm & Haas' business manager for the company's European region.

Entegris Promotes Lemons to Senior VP

Chaska, Minn.-Entegris Inc. has promoted Richard M. Lemons to senior vice president of its Integrated Systems Shipping Business(ISSB), reporting to Jim Dauwalter, Entegris' executive vice president.

Lemons served as vice president of global sales and marketing for EMPAK, prior to its recent merger with Fluoroware. Earlier, Lemons spent nine years at Knight Advanced Technologies in Phoenix, Ariz.
